Culturally Competent Care

At SAM, we can provide the culturally competent care that vulnerable communities need. SAM connects individuals to culturally competent mental health care by partnering with trusted community anchors, local private providers, and specialized facilities that understand diverse lived experiences. Through a flexible network of vetted providers—spanning nonprofit clinics, private practitioners, and community organizations—SAM ensures every recipient receives respectful, identity-affirming treatment tailored to their unique background. SAM bridges the gap to culturally responsive care by funding direct-to-provider treatment costs, removing the financial roadblocks that prevent individuals from finding practitioners who truly speak their language and share their cultural context.

Women's Initiatives

SAM is founded and run by women. Women's empowerment is a running theme at SAM. We take pride in

cultivating a space where mental wellness and professional ambition coexist and we want to take this feeling to the streets! We recognize that for women to truly thrive, they need more than just clinical support. They need a community that understands their unique challenges.

To bridge this gap, our special projects go beyond traditional therapy to foster genuine community connection and support. Our Women's Empowerment Workshops facilitate an environment where women can connect to other women and explore topics to create resilience and foster hope. We believe that when women are mentally healthy and authentically connected, they become an unstoppable force for change in their communities.

PROGRAMS

Individual and Group Therapy

SAM provides access to individual and group therapy either through our own clinicians or through other community agencies and clinicians that we partner with. We ensure a personalized care plan for every individual experiencing barriers to mental healthcare.

Community Education, Research and Resources

SAM provides community education and resources through outreach, workshops, classes, group therapy settings and collaboration with other community agencies. SAM is always on the cutting edge of research providing evidence based solutions to our communities.

Gerontology- Mobile Mental Health Team (MMHT)

At SAM, we have a dedicated gerontology department to provide specialized mobile mental health services for individuals over 60 years old. Data from the most recent state and county reports strongly confirm that over 60% of Orange County's elderly population who need mental health care are not receiving it due to known and persistent barriers related to cost, access, and lack of information. Providing home based mental heath services allows us to close that gap. In addition to gerontology care, SAM also has a comprehensive palliative care program that assists older adults and their care givers in home based mental health services and the often overlooked and vitally important area of end of life care.
